Best Buy Geeks are FBI Informants is that a bad thing ?
The relationship between the FBI and employees of Best Buy’s computer and device repair unit Geek Squad is more complex than first thought, according to newly released documents. Records posted by the Electronic Frontier Foundation following a freedom of information lawsuit filed last year reveal that federal agents would pay Geek Squad managers who pass on information about illegal materials on devices sent in by customers for repairs.
Now the question comes up, is this a bad or good thing ? Does this infringe on our privacy rights or does it capture pedophiles or other unsavory characters. Once a machine is given to a repair unit such as Geeks or any other they lose those privacy rights immediately upon machine delivery.
This is a dangerous area where private rights can disappear in seconds and could destroy people’s characters. That being said does it mean the repair people should look the other way when they discover something bad. Now for an example if a IT repair person found a mad bomber doesn’t it seem correct to turn in the evidence to the FBI ? So really what is the difference between a mad bomber and a pedophile, both are evil at best and should be turned over.
Freedom is a big measure we as Americans can attest to but if a figure can hurt or damage property shouldn’t the repair people turn them over ? This is similar to a person that is deemed insane or possibly dangerous when they wish to purchase arms. This topic is always open to discussion but as always the constitution is a living document that changes.
