Unhide Data Files

By default, Windows does not permit you to locate data files or list them in the file explorer. Should you need to locate these files use one of the procedures shown below.
Windows 8, 8.1 & 10
- Open the Windows file Explorer, click the Start Button and select Computer.
- Select "View" from the Main menu.
- In the Show/Hide section check the boxes labeled "File name extensions" and Hidden items."
Windows 7 & Vista
- Open the Windows file Explorer, click the Start Button and select Computer.
- Click the down arrow on the Organize menu selection
- Select "Folder and search options"
- Click to View tab
- Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
- Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
- Click the Apply button
- Click the OK button
Windows XP
- Open the Windows file Explorer, click the Start Button and select My Computer.
- Select Tools on the main menu
- Select the Folder Options from the drop-down
- Click to View tab
- Select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives"
- Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"
- Click the Apply button
- Click the OK button
